Live Resin: Your Complete Guide to Getting Super Baked

Share if you care

Honey-hued and cosmically divine, live resin is a cannabis concentrate that touts the plant’s full spectrum of goodies, from terpenes to flavonoids to mind-bending THC cannabinoids, all to deliver a one-of-a-kind, wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am buffet of flavors and effects. This hemp extract, with its aromatic bouquet of compounds, captures everything that has made this plant a staple on Friday night, Saturday mornings, and daily lunch breaks (don’t worry, we won’t tell the Boss). Live resin oil bottles up all that’s great in cannabis, locked inside those big, beautiful green buds, and delivers it to you in tasty carts and vape pens.

Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on live resin, charging up the vapes, and welcoming you into the smoke circle to enjoy all that this powerful ’n’ potent extract has to offer. With its unique euphoria, live resin is about to become a mainstay in your rotation! But first, let’s dive face-first into the ooey-gooey awesomeness that is live resin cannabis extract!

What Is Live Resin?

Think of live resin as a chemical snapshot of the cannabis plant. On the molecular level (yeah, we’re busting out the lab coat, microscope, and superfluous jargon), the cannabis plant is teeming with mysterious compounds. Some of these carry the plant’s aromas (terpenes), its flavors (flavonoids), and its lunar-launching effects (THC cannabinoids). Live resin captures all of these in live resin gummies, vape pens, and carts to give you (Mister or Missus Cheefer McCheeferson) tongue-smothering flavors and extra potent effects.

How Live Resin Is Made From Cannabis

Making your own live resin ain’t easy. It requires expert chemistry knowledge, a horticultural background, a ton of space, and the delicate use of explosive solvents, which may blow your operations sky-high before you even get to savor the tasty live resin nectar. So, I know what you’re thinking, “Well, tell me how it’s made.” You little daredevil, you. Alright, I’ll tell ya’.

Harvest ’em Buds

To make live resin, first, you need some pretty pristine buds. Cultures have been growin’ cannabis for centuries, so a pretty standard outdoor grow may do. But you need a ton of land and permits to do so. Also, you need to make sure you grow these puppies around all-natural pesticides and herbicides. These agricultural chemicals can leak into the final product, potentially exposing the smoke circle to a host of unsavory toxins. Or, opt for an indoor grow and lose one of your rooms to bushels and heaps of bud. (This might sound like a dream, but it can spiral into a nightmare pretty fast.) Once you have those pretty pristine buds in hand, it’s time to enter the fro-zone.

Flash Freeze

Flash-freezing is a process where cannabis buds are frozen immediately after harvest. This process locks all those sweet, snowy trichomes in place and keeps ’em fresh for harvest. And, if you ain’t careful, flash-freezing can be especially dangerous.

Grind Them Buds

Now, with your frozen buds in hand, grind those puppies up. You’ll probably need an industrial-sized cannabis grinder or a lot of spare time to grind up all that weed. Better get your elbow loose beforehand. Frozen hemp buds don’t grind easily.

Introduce Solvents

Now comes the tricky part. (Hopefully, the past few steps were easy-peasy.) Here, you gotta introduce solvents. If you think back to chemistry class, solvents are liquids that dissolve material into a solution. Typically, cannabis cultivators will use CO2 or ethanol to break down ground hemp buds into a solution. And yes, these solvents are highly flammable. And yes, they are very dangerous. And, of course, we don’t recommend this approach. (Just buy a TRĒ House live resin vape pen and get to the fun faster!)

Purge Solvents

Next, you have to find a way to strip those solvents out from the finished product; they aren’t good to consume. Then, you gotta send that live resin oil through a third-party lab to make sure all the solvent mixture has been rooted out. If it sounds like I’m yelling right now, I am. Making your own live resin is next to impossible and a waste of time. So, just trust the professionals and puff the best, not the bootleg. Alright, now I can simmer down.

What’s in Live Resin?

Let’s dip our toes in the honey-hued live resin and find out what exactly makes this utterly divine.

THC Cannabinoids

Almighty THC, the classic cannabinoid that’s engineered millions of good times for the last millenia. THC is the compound responsible for cannabis’ red-eyed giggles and euphoric sprinkles of bliss. It’s the compound that gets you properly baked; and live resin is rife with it. There are so many different THC compounds peppered throughout our live resin hemp extract, from delta 8 to THC-P to delta 9 to the evasive delta 10 and THCA.

Terpenes

The perfumey smell of roses, the peppery smell of rosemary, and the loud, pungent gas of the Sour Diesel cannabis strain are all thanks to terpenes, “terps” for short. Terpenes are plant-based molecules that emit an array of aromatics, giving each and every plant a different, unique bouquet of scents. Live resin carries cannabis’ full terpene profile, giving you boundless sweet-smelling puffs.

Flavonoids

Taking your tongue on a twirl of flavors, flavonoids are naturally occurring compounds that rest easy on just about every plant species. Different cannabis strains have a variety of flavonoids, giving their live resins’ extract a range of flavors, from fruity to sugar to skunky to high-octane, straight diesel.

Live Resin vs. Live Rosin vs. Liquid Diamonds vs. Liquid Budder

In the world of cannabis concentrates, live resin is one of a few that deliver great flavors and even better electric vibes than puffing flower. And you better believe we got these concentrates on tap, ready for you to dabble in the delta arts!

Live Rosin

Live rosin is another cannabis concentrate that packages up the plant’s tasty terps and trippy cannabinoids into an effervescent extract that’s teeming with euphoric potential. (Sounds amazing, huh?) The only difference between live rosin and live resin is in their extraction processes. While both live resin and live rosin are made from flash-frozen buds, live rosin doesn’t undergo a solvent-based extraction like live resin. Instead, live rosin extraction is done by pressing the frozen cannabis buds flat until they release that sweet, gooey nectar.

You can find live rosin in a number of our THC vape pens!

Liquid Diamonds

Another fan favorite among popular cannabis concentrates is liquid diamonds, a potent, pure extract that carries a seriously high THC level. Like live resin oil, liquid diamonds are made from flash-frozen hemp buds. But like real diamonds, liquid diamonds need a li’l heat and pressure to find their final form. By applying a li’l heat and pressure to the live resin mixture, we can create a completely different type of cannabis concentrate—one that’s teeming with extra delicious flavors and extra potent effects.

Liquid Budder

In our THCA vape pens, we also use liquid budder, a cannabis concentrate that delivers carefully extracted strain-specific terpenes and cannabinoids—all to give you a ton of tasty, supremely euphoric puffs. Our liquid budder pens carry potent levels of THCA—a trippy feature not found in our live resin pens.
